Early life
Ernesto "Che" Guevara (June 14 1928-October 9 1967) was born in Rosario Argentina, he was the eldest in an Argentinian family of five of Spanish Basque and Irish descent. Che's father said his "veins flowed with the blood of Irish rebels". His family were very into politics as his father was a strong republican and supported the Spanish civil war. he often had war veterans in his house visiting.he suffered from bad asthma but he was extremely involved in sport such as golf, soccer, shooting, swimming and was an enthusiastic rugby union player. He played for Club universitario de Buenos Aires in the fly-half position. he was nicknamed "fuser" meaning raging (a shorter version of El furibundo) and his mother surname de la serna as he was a very aggresive player. his father taught him to play chess and he played in local tournament by the age of 12. when he was a teenager he was very passionate about poetry he admired the writings of poets such as Walt Whitman, Robert Frost and Antonio Machada. he enjoyed reading and his household contained over 3,000 books which made Che an enthusiastic reader. he enjoyed the writings of Albert Camus and Vladimir Lenin. some of his favourite subjects in school were philosophy mathematics engineering and history
